Frequently Asked Questions

What is NFPA 1582?

NFPA 1582 is a standard that provides information and guidance for physicians and other healthcare providers responsible for fire department occupational medical programs. The medical requirements are intended to be part of an evaluation to ensure that candidates and current members can perform their required duties and reduce the risk of occupational injuries and illnesses.

Does First Due Wellness provide NFPA 1582 Medical Physicals?

First Due Wellness does not directly provide NFPA 1582 testing but we can manage the process for your team. We will track which of your personnel need medical physicals each year and work to coordinate their appointments with a licensed medical provider. We will work with your team to determine the best approach of using on or offsite medical evaluations to best meet your specific needs.

What is NFPA 1583?

NFPA 1583 is a national standard and industry best practice on health-related fitness programs for fire department members. It is a valuable resource that details specific minimum requirements for the development, implementation, and management of fire department fitness programs.

Does First Due Wellness provide NFPA 1583 Fitness Testing?

Yes. First Due Wellness will work with your team to perform voluntary annual fitness testing in line with the NFPA 1583 standards. Our supportive approach will focus on improvement over time as we strive to create healthier first responders.

What does it cost for your services?

We work with each agency to develop a custom program to meet their specific needs and initiatives. Pricing will largely depend on what services we provide and how involved you would like us to be. If first responder wellness is important to your agency, we are confident that we can provide a solution based on your specific budget and goals.

Can I hire a fulltime wellness coordinator?

We believe that providing consistent/dedicated wellness services should be the standard for our first responders. Most of our departments will pay significantly less for these services by partnering with First Due Wellness relative to hiring a full-time employee. We support both options and can help you find an onsite Wellness Program Manager too!
